Every year 3rd Saturday of September is celebrated as International Coastal Clean-up Day worldwide by thousands of volunteers. I request you to spread this date and organize local clean-up in your area & contribute in saving most precious gift of GOD, Water!
About us:
Ocean Conservancy a US based NGO organizes Coastal Cleanup with NGO’s world wide. Founded in 1972, OC is an environmental non-profit advocacy organization that promotes healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems and opposes practices that threaten ocean life and human life. This year it is the 27th International Coastal Clean-up Campaign.
Jeevan Jyot Kendra - NGO, is registered as a public charitable trust (E-751) with the Charity Commissioner, Junagadh in October 1982. The main aim of Jeevan Jyot Kendra is to contribute to build urban & rural India where all people can gain access to education, health care & livelihood opportunities & where all Indians can realize their full potential.
About International Coastal Cleanup:
Trash Free Seas - we take this year pledge to keep our oceans and other waterways trash free. We will take a look at what volunteers have found over 26 years of clean-up.
· Enough clothing (266,997 items) to outfit every expected audience member of the London 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.
· Enough food packaging (940,277 pieces) to get takeout for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day for the next 858 years.
· Enough light bulbs (24,384 bulbs) to replace every light on the Eiffel Tower.
· Enough beverage cans and glass beverage containers that, if recycled, would net $45,489.15.
· Fifty-five million cigarettes butts, which if stacked vertically, would be as tall as 3,613 Empire State Buildings.
This loss is nothing in comparison to the damage these things could cause if they remained in oceans.
We are already facing problems like Global Warming, Disturbed Ecosystem, Rise in temperature, uneven rainfall, and many others. Together we have to take action and protect us from ourselves.
Together we will work to find suitable volunteers to help target appropriate sites for conducting cleanups. You are not alone in the job; there will millions of volunteers across the globe supporting the cause.
Previous year nearly 600,000 volunteers participated from more then 108 countries.
In India 23,496 volunteers participated, cleaning & collecting 70,032 kg of debris.
At Jeevan Jyot Kendra 960 volunteers participated, cleaning & collecting 5403 kg of debris.
This year we intend to create more of impact by educating people and creating awareness by organizing cleanups on beach, showing documentaries in schools and colleges, and providing children with eco-friendly games.
Please respond to this email confirming your association, so as to arrange to provide you with further details on all required support & necessary kits for the cleanup.
We will provide you with resources such as documentaries, data cards and other cleanup resources. We look forward for your support in creating a better world, a better place to live.
Best Wishes,
Mitesh Dave
